Our ACE Irish Teacher

Áine has been a teacher of Gaeilge for 25 years and has taught both at second and third level. She is a State examinations examiner and has assessed the Scrúdú Cainte at Leaving Cert level for a number of years. She has worked with the NCCA in the development of the curriculum in Gaeilge for both Junior and Leaving Cert. Chaith sí tréimhse ag múineadh sa Ghaeltacht leis. She was part of the TL 21 team for three years in the development of new teaching and learning initiatives in all areas of the Gaeilge curriculum.

In her role as head of Roinn na Gaeilge and Year Head in her own school, she has worked along with her colleagues in the development of new effective and successful IT teaching and learning strategies for the new Junior Cert programme, which is currently in its third year. This ‘Gaeilge Bheo’ initiative in her school, that she was involved in the design of within Foireann na Gaeilge has specialised in providing Irish students with a clear, and fundamental understanding of ‘An Ghaeilge Bheo’ in the development of An Ghaeilge as a spoken and living language both at Junior and Leaving Cert level.

Students learn not only the importance of An Ghaeilge mar theanga bheo in Áine class, but also of the importance of self-directed learning, enabling students to learn efficient examination techniques as well as a clear understanding of the importance of marking schemes etc.

Her style of teaching is focused on presenting the curriculum in a positive, practical and concise way, in order to ensure that all students learn the essential tools to successfully manage exam paper questions and so reach their potential, both in the Scrúdú Cainte and the written exam.

Áine strives to ensure that students learn to develop a positive outlook towards the language as well as creating an ability to stimulate students’ interest in the subject. Students can join Áine’s class at any stage during the year.
