ACE Career Coaching

ACE Career Coaching was founded by Career Coach, Joe McCormack in 2019 (Click here to view Joe’s Coaching qualifications). Typical sub-topics and challenges discussed are numbered one to twenty five below. Sub-topics can be mixed and matched to suit the needs of each student. A wide range of ACE Programmes offered to Secondary School Students and their Parents are listed below:

ACE Career Coaching Programmes

A. Secondary School Guidance Programme

  • Guidance around Choosing Subjects for 5th Year and suitable Careers[1]
  • Advice on settling into Secondary School, expectations/subjects etc.. .[2]
  • Insights into how to efficiently create summaries and note take.[3]
  • Tips on how to maximise their evenings (Homework/Study/Leisure balance).[4]
  • Pointers on how to prepare a Presentation and the skills required to deliver one (The new Junior Cycle involves doing class presentations (CBA’s) in subjects).[5]
  • Practical advice for your first year child as they transition to Secondary School (Packing their bag, sorting materials for class, a new timetable, using lockers etc).[6]
  • Advice for your child on setting up a ‘Lifestyle Study Timetable’.[7]
  • Assessment of where they are at in relation to the Higher level Maths standard? (Particularly useful for 1st and 5th year students).[8]

B. Career Options Programme

  • Career Matching: Assessment of skills and qualities in order to match them to a potential career or further Educational course of study.[9]
  • Guidance in creating a Curriculum Vitae (CV).[10]
  • The Practicalities of actually doing a Mock Interview.[11]
  • Guidance on subject choice and how it might affect their Third level options.[12]

C. Third Level Programme

  • An overview of the CAO system and choosing Third level courses.[13]
  • Information on the process of branching from a PLC (QQI) course in a Further Education College into a Diploma/Degree course. Overview of Apprenticeships.[14]
  • Information about special entry routes to Third level for eligible candidates: HEAR (Higher Ed Access Route) and DARE (Disability Access Route to Ed).[15]

D. Exam Focus Programme

  • Information on the most efficient ways to Study and Revise.[16]
  • Advice on the key Ingredients to doing well in Exams.[17]
  • Insights into Preparing a difficult Subject (e.g. Maths).[18]
  • Applying the best ‘Junior and Leaving Cert Hacks’.[19]
  • Using some Stress busting techniques as the Exams approach.[20]

E. Parental Information Programme

  • Helpful tips to provide good Secondary School routines.[21]
  • Useful tips in relation to Improving their diet during school time.[22]
  • Advice around keeping your Child safe on the Internet.[23]
  • A crash course (for Parents) in Social Media or Basic computer usage.[24]

Programmes are available for ALL  STUDENTS from 1st through 6th year. Tailored programmes mixed from the full list of above topics can be created to suit each students’ needs. Parents will be very much included in the process.
